LIBERTY FRIDAY, the biggest test of the Bearcat's young season Liberty Flames (2016 National runner-ups). The Cats started slow and this time it cost them. The Flames came out fast and at the 10 minute mark of the first period, the Bearcats found themselves in a big hole down 5-0. The Cats weathered the storm to slow down the Liberty offense and answered with a goal by Damien Lona. At the end of the first period, the score was 5-1 Liberty. A depleted line up, different lines, different D parings and a slow start were just too much for the Cats to overcome on this night. Flames win 14-1.VIRGINIA TECH SATURDAY, After a thumping Friday evening at the hands of the Liberty flames, the Bearcats looked to rebound against the Virginia Tech Hookies. With an already depleted line-up, #17 Oliver Swarts was ejected from the game with a head contact penalty, 2 minutes into the game. The Bearcats would also loose their starting goalie Michael Weber with a groin injury. Despite these looses the Bearcats remained strong and after 2 periods the score was 1-1 while playing almost half the game to this point short handed. The Bearcats had to start the third short handed and picked up another penalty. They were no two players down. The Hookies scored on the power play to make it 2-1 and added another power play goal to make it 3-1. The Bearcats finally returned to full strength and closed the gap to one but just ran out of time. Hookie's won 3-2.
